When one thinks of independent film, they think about something that isn’t as mainstream as studio features, with a raw beauty both in concept and in cinematography. The couples in independent film have immense variety.

There are loves like the adorable quirky couples, such as in Charlyne in “Paper Heart” or Clementine in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” But there are also raw and real people who are far from perfect such as, Dean and Cindy in “Blue Valentine” and Sylvia in “The Burning Plain.”

The best couples are the ones that compel audience into their world, making the relationship believable and full of emotion. It takes two amazing actors to play parts that fit together like adjacent puzzle pieces. They must have some kind of stakes to drive what they are fighting for, such as Dean and Cindy’s child, Frankie, in “Blue Valentine” or the life or death stakes of “Brick.” When the audience can see and feel both sides of the relationship, something is obviously right.

Whether you got an indie channel through some Direct TV Deals or you’ve always been an adamant proponent of indies, you’ve got a love for the genre. We do too! Thanks for coming. Here are a few of our favorite indie actors of the moment and why you should be watching them:
Elizabeth Olsen – Despite the fact that she’s become a sort-of fashion icon, Elizabeth is really making marks in her film career. After her recent success in Mary Martha Margaret May she’s become recognized by directors and film watchers alike.
Michael Pitt – The star of “The Dreamers” is one of the hottest new stars in indie. He’s got that look and intensity that make him a casting director’s favorite and his range is so far showing no bounds.
Michael Cera – He’s made a few breakout moves with films like Superbad but Cera’s still got that indie spirit that makes him one of our favorites. He’s only got a few years left before entering ‘young man’ stage which will make him imminently less watchable so catch him now while you can so you can get your fill.

Posey became the quintessential art house goddess with 1995-s “Party Girl.’ As Mary, the good-time heroine who must work off her bail in a library, she captured the hip fashion and the dark heart of the 1990s underground scene. Her offbeat beauty and witty humor has kept Parker steadily employed for the last two decades, with an impressive variety or roles in major motion pictures, festival favorites and TV appearances.Get more information here. http://www.fitsugar.com/2948116 Over the years, she has appeared in over 30 independent films, most notably as a member of director Christopher Guest-s esteemed series of films, including “Waiting for Guffman’ and “A Mighty Wind.’ Parker has worked with the best of cult directors like Hal Hartley, Gregg Araki and Noah Baumbach. At the same time, she-s played supporting roles in mainstream blockbusters like “You-ve Got Mail’ and “Superman Returns.’ Her recent work includes guest spots on offbeat TV hits like NBC-s “Parks & Recreation,’ HBO-s “Bored to Death’ and Showtime-s “The C Word.’ As she continues to explore every sort of character and storyline, Parker Posey remains one of the best parts of independent film.

Independent film Queen

Parker Posey –
Forget the huge movie stars, forget the glam and perfection. Come into the reality of good raw acting style. Visit with Ms. Parker Posey. Her two best independent films “Henry Fool (1997)” and “Broken English (2007)” are weird, off center and awe inspiring. Filmed a decade apart, they show the depth of characterization that make Posey the queen of indie actors. Generally you can’t go wrong simply following along with her list of film credits, from “Dazed and Confused” to “Kicking and Screaming” to “Fay Grim” to “House of Yes” to follow her career is to build upon a movement. Watching Posey is the same as watching an entire sector of Hollywood grow up.

Then you reach the mockumentary style of film making through Christoper Guest with whom Posey has made a number of films. Often ad-libed the development of such a variety of characters in these films proves Parker Posey to be an actress like no other. Her occasional delve into television for momentary quirky characters only heightens the level of independent spirit of her career. For a history course in independent film, start with a list of Posey’s films then branch off to follow the various directors.

Best Independent Films Ever Made are full of angst and growth but most off all fantastic music. Its the sound and the absence of sound that create mood and rhythm for the American Independent film.

Smithereens (1982) – The awakening of post feminism and the independent film movement can thank Susan Seidleman. In this incredibly written tightly woven nod to the end of a punk era, Seidleman thrusts Wren into our lives to be a unlikeable anti hero. Often lost in the wake to congratulate male directors for creating the stream of early indies.

Stranger Than Paradise (1984) – Quirky, loveable and strange the road trip of nothing to nowhere. Like a train wreck where nothing goes wrong but the derailment in slow motion you can’t take your eyes off of it.

El Mariachi (1992) – For a few thousand dollars writer / director Robert Rodriquiz gave spirit and depth to the revamped indie film movement through a tough guy genre played out with no excuses.

Myth of the American Sleepover (2010) – First feature film for David Robert Mitchell takes small town midwestern teenagers through the last night of summer. Honest and intimate portrayal of youth on the cusp.
